Tehillim 4 | Keep Me Secure

03.05.2025

The psalm opens with the poet’s prayer to God, asking Him to hear his prayer. But after this opening, most of the psalm is directed toward his enemies. He asks them why they try to shame and humiliate him and tells them that their schemes will not succeed, because God stands by his side. In light of this, he invites them as well to fear God and trust in Him — essentially encouraging them to join him in righteousness and thereby merit salvation. The psalm concludes with the poet describing how he lies down to sleep peacefully and calmly, trusting in God: “In peace I shall lie down and sleep soundly, for You alone, Lord, keep me safe” (4:9).
