Tehillim 76 | “His Tent Is Set in Salem
After several psalms describing intense distress in the struggle against the wicked, along with a bleak picture of Mount Zion, Psalm 76 presents the opposite: God’s name is known and exalted in Yehuda and Israel, and the Shekhina returns to Zion. Most of the psalm describes God’s judgment upon the warriors and armies of the nations. In this way, Psalm 76 appears to be a completion of Psalm 75: whereas Psalm 75 foretold a time when God would judge the wicked and the righteous with perfect justice, in Psalm 76 that judgment is realized. The psalm concludes with universal recognition of God's kingship, as the nations bring tribute to Zion: “Make vows and fulfill them to the Lord your God; all around Him will bring tribute to the Fearsome One” (verse 12).
